RUDN University Hosts Conference on General Augusto Sandino in Partnership with Nicaraguan Embassy

On March 6, 2026, the Embassy of the Republic of Nicaragua in the Russian Federation, in cooperation with RUDN University, hosted a conference dedicated to the anti-imperialist teachings of General Augusto Nicolás Calderón Sandino.

The event brought together students, diplomats, academics, and representatives of Latin American communities in Moscow to honor the legacy of one of Nicaragua's greatest national heroes.


Program Highlights:

- Lecture by Claudio Antonio Arana, Minister-Counselor of the Embassy of Nicaragua, on "The Anti-Imperialist Thought of General Sandino: His Struggle and Legacy"

- Interactive Q&A session with attendees


The conference was honored by the presence of distinguished guests, including:

- His excellency, Enrique Orta González, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Cuba to the Russian Federation

- Her excellency, María del Rosario Portell Casanova, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Oriental Republic of Uruguay to the Russian Federation

- Her excellency, Carmen Inés Ávila Ortega, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Panama to the Russian Federation

- Julio César Pacheco, Counselor of the Embassy of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela to the Russian Federation

- Abedalla Iesa, Counselor of the Embassy of the State of Palestine to the Russian Federation

- Ana María King Gori, Third Secretary of the Embassy of the Republic of Equatorial Guinea to the Russian Federation


Representatives of the Association of Solidarity and Friendship between Russia and Nicaragua, led by Olga V. Malova, and the House of Latin America, including Elena G. Suvertok, also took part in the event.

The conference served as a meaningful platform for dialogue between Russian and Latin American diplomatic communities, academia, and youth — reinforcing the bonds of solidarity, historical memory, and mutual respect.
