A foreign citizen can be admitted to RUDN University on a state‑funded basis
within the quota of the Government of the Russian Federation allocated to your country.

To apply for a fee‑paying program at RUDN University, an international applicant should send an email to
intstudent@rudn.ru, stating your full name, citizenship,
the level of study and the chosen specialization, and whether you need to study at the Preparatory Faculty.
The cost of studying at the Preparatory Faculty for the specializations “Philology”,
“Linguistics”, “Dentistry”, “General Medicine” is 4,900 USD per academic year.
For all other specializations – 4,300 USD per academic year.
For citizens of CIS countries applying to the Preparatory Faculty,
the tuition fee is the same as for the chosen future degree program.
Upon admission to RUDN University and upon actual arrival, a foreign citizen admitted exclusively to full‑time (in‑person) study is provided with a place in a dormitory.
Admission to the Preparatory Faculty program is ongoing without interruption.
Graduates receive an official certificate for admission to any Russian university.
State‑funded (budget) places:
Foreign citizens applying for state‑funded places (within the quota of the Government
of the Russian Federation or as winners of the RUDN Open Olympiad for Foreign Citizens,
Russian Scholarship Project Association “Global Universities” (Open Doors)) do not take entrance examinations.
Fee‑paying (contract) places: Bachelor's / Specialist's programs
For foreign citizens applying for fee‑paying places, a competitive selection is conducted based on the results of an
entrance examination in the form of an interview (in Russian or English, depending on the planned language of instruction of the chosen program)
and an assessment of the portfolio submitted by the applicant.
Master's programs
For foreign citizens applying for fee‑paying places, a competitive selection is conducted based on the results of an entrance examination in the form of a portfolio competition.
The portfolio competition includes the review by the RUDN Admissions Committee for International Citizens of the documents submitted by the applicant:
Grade point average (GPA) of the document on the previous level of education;
Achievements in academic and social activities;
Recommendations, certificates of merit, diplomas for participation in Olympiads and academic competitions;
Motivation letter;
Certificate of Russian language proficiency not lower than level B1 (state‑issued TORFL‑1 certificate) / certificate of foreign language proficiency not lower than level B1;
Students studying on a state‑funded (budget) basis who have passed the examination
session without “satisfactory” grades and who have no academic debts receive a state academic stipend.
In addition, students on state‑funded places may receive an enhanced academic stipend,
awarded for achievements in social, creative, sporting or academic activities.
State‑funded students may also receive named and special scholarships.
The special RUDN BRILLIANT STUDENTS scholarship program is intended
for international students who are winners or prize‑winners of Olympiads.
Students studying on a fee‑paying (contract) basis do not receive a stipend.
Recognition in the Russian Federation of foreign education and/or foreign qualifications
means the official confirmation of the significance (level) of education and/or qualifications obtained in a foreign state,
granting their holder academic, professional and/or other rights.
The decision to recognize foreign education and/or foreign qualifications
is made by the Federal Service for Supervision in Education and Science (Rosobrnadzor).
According to Russian legislation, documents issued in another state
may be used (accepted by Russian authorities and organizations) only if legalized.
Legalization is the performance of a certain set of formal procedures to give
a document legal force on the territory of another state, enabling it to be submitted to official bodies of that state.
In 2026, RUDN University admits foreign citizens to Bachelor's and Specialist's programs based on a competitive selection through

When assessing your portfolio, the following are considered:
Document on the previous level of education
grade point average (GPA)
Individual achievements in academic, social, sporting, or volunteer activities, confirmed by certificates of merit, diplomas, certificates from the last two years of your studies.
Documents confirming participation in Olympiads, competitions, projects (only one status is considered):
diploma of winner or prize‑winner of an Olympiad/competition in the relevant field of study for foreign citizens from Russian educational organizations;
participation in academic paper competitions/creative projects.
Letters of recommendation for admission to the chosen program (if several letters are submitted, the points are not added together):
from academic departments of Russian/foreign universities or academic supervisors;
from Russian diplomatic missions abroad or foreign diplomatic missions;
from public organizations, associations of foreign graduates of Russian (Soviet) universities.
The minimum portfolio score is 30 points.
The maximum portfolio score is 100 points.
In 2026, RUDN University admits foreign citizens to master’s programs based on a portfolio
competition based on the documents submitted by the foreign citizen.

Academic and professional achievements confirmed by diplomas, certificates, and other documents:
participation in national/international academic conferences, seminars/schools, academic masterclasses, online courses, other academic events;
participation in research projects;
completion of internships;
academic publications (articles) / reports in Russian or foreign academic journals, etc.
A higher education diploma issued by another Russian university or by a foreign university
that is ranked in the TOP‑500 of the ARWU, QS, or THE institutional rankings, or in the TOP‑200 of the ARWU, QS, or THE subject rankings.
Letters of recommendation for admission to the chosen program (if several letters are submitted, the points are not added together):
from academic departments of Russian/foreign universities or academic supervisors;
from Russian diplomatic missions abroad or foreign diplomatic missions;
from public organizations, associations of foreign graduates of Russian (Soviet) universities.
The minimum portfolio score is 30 points.
The maximum portfolio score is 100 points.
Foreign citizens may apply for government-funded postgraduate studies if they register on the Education in Russia website (education-in-russia.com ) and are granted a quota by the Government of the Russian Federation.
The competitive selection process for foreign citizens applying for contract-based postgraduate programs is conducted through a portfolio review. More details are available on the university website, under the Postgraduate Studies section.

Yes, you may apply for affiliation either to take Candidate of Sciences exams or to prepare and defend a dissertation. Required documents:
Copy of your passport;
Notarized translation of your passport into Russian (if you are a foreign citizen);
Copies of higher education diplomas with transcripts (and notarized translations if the originals are not in Russian);
Application form (link available on the website), signed by the heads of the departments where you intend to take exams;
Completed questionnaire with photo (link on the website);
Consent to personal data processing (link on the website).
