The Preparatory Faculty is one of the oldest at the University. It was established in 1960. That year, 539 students from 59 countries across Asia, Africa, Latin America, and 57 Soviet students began studying Russian and foreign languages.
Throughout the academic year, international students who wish to enroll in a Russian university study the Russian language and discipline-specific subjects required for their future profession, all taught in Russian.
Over the years, the faculty has developed an extensive educational and methodological framework, including more than 3,000 textbooks and teaching aids, many of which account for the ethno-cultural backgrounds of international students. More than 180 highly qualified and experienced instructors teach at the faculty.
The Preparatory Faculty continues the traditions of classical methods of teaching Russian as a foreign language, established by RUDN University over half a century ago. It not only preserves the traditions of university education but also successfully integrates digital technologies from the university ecosystem into the educational process.
Thanks to decades of experience working with international students and modern digitalization, the faculty combines tradition with innovation. Building on time-tested methodologies, we implement advanced digital tools, creating a modern information environment for learning.
The Preparatory Faculty plays a key role in the socio-cultural adaptation of international students, advancing the civilizational mission of the Russian language in Russia. A unique support system has been created here to help students better master the Russian language.
Beyond classroom activities, a wide range of cultural, social, and academic events are organized, including:
The Preparatory Faculty offers a broad spectrum of activities that help international students adapt not only to university life but also to Russia as a whole. Students become acquainted with the country's culture, history, traditions, and peoples. The Russian language becomes a gateway to the world's cultural heritage.
A key advantage of studying here is the international environment. Students learn to interact with representatives of different countries, building essential skills for working in multicultural teams.
Since 2018, the faculty has hosted the "OHANA" volunteer department, established to support international students. The program operates on the "buddy for foreigners" principle: each student is assigned a volunteer mentor who provides academic support and becomes a true friend throughout their studies.
